Shifting Focus: Diversion

By Loveallie Lao

A quote from Khalil Gibran

“You talk when you cease to be at peace with your thoughts. And when you can no longer dwell in the solitude of your heart you live in your lips, and sound is a diversion and a pastime.”

For me rather than talking, I write. A form of expressing myself on how I truly feel. When my mind can no longer find peace, writing is my healing process. A way to express what is stirring inside me.

When I’m troubled, I write

When I’m at my complex state of mind, I write

When I’m sad and in despair, I write

When I don’t understand myself, I write

When I don’t understand other people, I write

When I’m grateful, and feeling fortunate, I write

When I am happy and delighted, I write

When I am in love, I write

Back then, I thought I shouldn’t have thrown away the journal I once had. But since it was full of rantings, and negative thoughts and emotions put into writing. I think it’s okay, throwing it away makes me feel good. Letting all those negative thoughts go.

Shifting my focus on positivity, and what feels good, and what makes my heart feel at peace. Re-directing my focus of attention away from my negative fixation, and shifting towards a positive focus of attention where you can passionately pursue your dreams.

Writing is a very good diversion for me when I am hurting, when the pain is unbearable and excruciating. Expressing myself thru writing doesn’t make the pain go away, but making it bearable. As I can see and reread my writings, I get to realize where my thoughts are heading to.

Realizing this, I am able to shift my focus back to a positive mindset. To bring back myself to the right track. An opportunity for me to process my thoughts. Letting myself heal, restoring myself to be strong again, and to ready myself to the next path I choose to.

To carefully choose what to think, not to worry, and just be happy. A way of forgetting, positive diversions are always welcome, to take time to enjoy an awesome life.
